THE FALSE COWRIES
Ovulidae, or False Cowries, are a species of small predatory or parasitic sea snails. Ovulids (another common name for the cowries) are carnivorous molluscs that feed on polyps and tissues of Anthozoa. Their shell structure is mostly smooth and shiny, with a very long aperture and a very low or invisible spire. While alive, the shell is almost completely covered by the mantle. The patterns on the shell often mimic (to a certain degree) the color and patterns of the host species.
